Ginette Bernas Wales was born in Paris in 1921 and left France at the start of the 1940s as a young art student to attend the New School of Social Research in New York. She was a student of Stanley Hayter who founded the legendary Atelier 17 Studio in Paris. She later received her BA at Pomona College, Claremont, California. and her Master of Applied Arts at University of Wisconsin at Madison. She now resides in Kula, Hawaii.
